Child Safety Standards
InterChat has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Protecting children is part of who we are as a faith community, and these standards apply to everyone who uses InterChat.
Our standards
- Age requirement. InterChat is for people aged 13 and older. Everyone gives their date of birth when signing up, and we don't create accounts for anyone under 13. Accounts we find belong to children under 13 are deleted.
- Prohibited content and behaviour. It is forbidden to create, share, request or link to any content that sexualises a minor, or to groom, sexually solicit, sextort, traffic or otherwise exploit a minor. This includes drawn, AI-generated or "fictional" depictions. Adults must not seek private, secretive or romantic contact with minors.
- Reporting in the app. Anyone can report a message, person, community, story, prayer request or comment from within the app, and block people. Child-safety reports are prioritised for review.
- Fast action. When we find or are told about CSAE, we remove the content, ban the accounts involved, preserve the evidence as the law requires, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or the relevant authorities in the country concerned.
- Cooperation with authorities. We respond to valid requests from law enforcement investigating child exploitation, in line with the law and our Privacy Policy.
- Safety by design. Communities have admins who can remove members and messages. Hosts control Prayer Rooms and can remove people. Anyone can be blocked, and blocking works both ways. People can limit who sees their profile and stories.
- Staff and moderators. People who review reports are trained to recognise and escalate CSAE, and handle it with care.
- Compliance with the law. We comply with child safety laws in the countries where InterChat is available.
How to report
- In the app: long-press the message or open the profile → Report, and choose the reason about a child's safety.
- By email: safety@interchathq.com. Please include the username(s), community name and what happened. Don't send us images of abuse; describe them instead.
- If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police or emergency services first.
You can also report directly to:
- NCMEC CyberTipline: report.cybertip.org
- In Nigeria: the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) or the Nigeria Police Force.
- Elsewhere: your local police or national child-protection hotline.
